The Sunderland man is soon to be out of contract and could fit in well at West Bromwich Albion.
West Bromwich Albion have money to spend and this summer they are expected to continue to strengthen their ever-improving squad, but Baggies boss Tony Pulis may also be wise to consider those free agents who could make an impact at The Hawthorns.
Among them is current Sunderland player Jan Kirchhoff, whose contract at the Stadium of Light expires this summer but who still has plenty to offer the right club.
The former Bayern Munich man suffered a cartilage injury earlier this season. However he is now back in training and will be vital in Sunderland’s fading hopes of securing Premier League survival for another year.
But come the summer he will be looking for a new club, and West Brom would be wise to at least consider a move for a player who is perfect for Tony Pulis’s side.
Able to play a holding midfield role and as a centre-back, Kirchhoff is still only 26 and he has proved he can cut it in the Premier League, with a string of fine performances at the back-end of last season inspiring the Black Cats to another great escape.
For nothing more than a signing-on fee, West Brom would be signing a player with plenty still do in the game and a feel for English football, and while some may point to his injury problems, he would be a risk well worth taking on a short-term contract in the first instance.
