The Baggies lost their unbeaten Championship record as the Whites won against Slaven Bilic and co at Elland Road.

West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi has given his verdict on the performances of the Baggies and of Leeds United from last night’s 1-0 Championship defeat at Elland Road (official West Brom website).
Slaven Bilic’s charges, who were hoping to extend their unbeaten league run, fell behind to a somewhat unfortunate goal as an Ezgjan Alioski shot was deflected by Kyle Bartley into the corner of Albion’s net shortly before half time.
West Brom set about trying to get back on level terms and performed admirably in the second half but they could not find the breakthrough as the Whites held firm, ensuring Marcelo Bielsa and co would condemn the Baggies to their first league defeat of the campaign.
Ajayi believes that the Baggies were unfortunate not to take something from the Leeds game, but he felt that the Whites had probably shaded the first half and admitted both sides would have felt hard done by in defeat, also being pleased at how West Brom performed against one of the league’s favourites.

“Obviously it’s bitterly disappointing that we’ve not managed to keep the unbeaten run going and come away with something. I think our performance definitely deserved it – especially in the second half,” Semi told the WBA website. “But listen, we’ve got to pick ourselves up now and get ready for Cardiff which is another big game on Saturday.
“I thought it was a very good game. They probably shaded the first half but in the second half we definitely dominated and we had our chances, so did they. Both teams will have felt hard done by if they didn’t come away with anything… it’s a good marker to see how far we’ve come and where we’re at in the season. To come to a team who are one of the favourites in this league, we more than held our own if not dominated long spells of the game.”
West Brom return to The Hawthorns this weekend as they host Cardiff City in the Championship, while Leeds head to Millwall.
