Scoring goals has certainly been a major problem for West Bromwich Albion this season, with the club having found the net on just 14 occasions in the Premier League.
West Brom’s lack of clinical nature in front of goal was all too evident during the 0-0 draw with Everton yesterday, and manager Alan Pardew must surely be looking to bring in a new striker next month.
It has become clear that West Brom cannot rely on Salomon Rondon to be their main source of goals.
There was hope that the arrival of Pardew would inspire the Venezuela international to become more prolific, but, despite scoring in the defeat to Stoke City recently, he has been rather unconvincing.
Rondon, who suffered a hamstring injury against Everton, has scored just three times in the Premier League this season – a return that simply isn’t acceptable for a club’s first-choice striker.
The 28-year-old could still have a part to play for West Brom in the second half of the season as a back-up player, but he has been given enough chances, and has missed enough chances, to indicate that he no longer deserves to be a regular in the starting lineup.
