West Brom must consider reigniting interest in Wolves’ Cameron John

West Bromwich Albion were reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Cameron John in the summer.

It was reported by the Daily Mail earlier this week that Wolves are willing to consider January loan offers for Cameron John with Nuno Espirito Santo yet to hand the teenager the chance to make his first-team debut.

The Mail reports that Wolves rejected a £500,000 bid from a Championship side for the 19-year-old during the summer. The team that made the offer is not named, but some West Brom fans may argue that they would not be surprised if they were the ones to place the bid.

The Daily Mail reported on its live transfer blog (02/07; 14:11) during the summer that the Baggies were eyeing a move for the starlet as Darren Moore looked to make his first signing of the window.

Of course, a move would not take place during the previous window. But with question marks surrounding his immediate future once again, West Brom must surely consider making another move when January arrives.

The Baggies have often been irresistible going forward this term and have scored more goals than any other team in the division. But defensively there remains a number of issues.

No team in the top-half has conceded more goals than Moore’s men. The likes of Craig Dawson, Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley have struggled for form and Moore hardly has the options to make drastic changes.

John is obviously not going to be the answer to all of West Brom’s defensive problems. But given his potential and the fact that his arrival is unlikely to harm the club’s transfer budget too much, there seems to be little reason why the Baggies should not look to make a fresh move in the new year.
