West Bromwich Albion fell to another defeat on Tuesday night, losing to Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough side at the Riverside Stadium.
It started well enough for Steve Bruce as he looks to make a positive impact with the Baggies.
Jayson Molumby fired West Brom in front and the Baggies will have had hopes of claiming a vital three points.
Instead, Boro roared back in the second half and turned the game on its head.
Paddy McNair equalised on the hour mark before Marcus Tavernier completed the comeback just nine minutes later.
That result leaves West Brom 11th in the Championship table and six points off the playoff places.
New boss Steve Bruce has a major job on his hands at The Hawthorns having recently taken over from Valerian Ismael.
It could have been so different for West Brom though as they were interested in appointing Wilder – the man who beat them last night.
When Sam Allardyce left the club last summer, West Brom held talks with Wilder and wanted to bring him to The Hawthorns.
Owner Guochuan Lai wasn’t on board though and went with Ismael instead – a decision that looks very strange now.
Ismael had done well at Barnsley but Wilder completely changed the fortunes of Sheffield United in a superb spell in charge.
Now rejuvenating Middlesbrough too, you have to think Wilder would have been able to do the same for West Brom.
Former Premier League and Middlesbrough striker Brian Deane has now taken to Twitter to react to West Brom losing to Wilder.
Deane suggested last night’s win was a ‘big result’ for Boro, but preferred to focus on West Brom’s decision.
Deane noted that West Brom ‘changed their mind’ on Wilder, and that ‘must hurt’ now he’s working wonders on Teesside.
