The Baggies have brought the highly rated Brazilian on loan to The Hawthorns.

Following Matheus Pereira’s loan move to West Bromwich Albion from Sporting Lisbon, a number of fans both of CP and of FC Nurnberg took to Twitter to praise the 23-year-old, suggesting that the Baggies have a real talent on their hands.

The Brazilian winger, who spent last year in the Bundesliga with Nurnberg on loan from the Portuguese giants, was one of West Brom’s main summer targets, with talks having gone on for weeks before a breakthrough was made this week, as confirmed by Luke Dowling (official website).

“He has natural flair but he went on loan (to Nuremberg) and experienced the football in the Bundesliga last year which showed a different side to his game,” Dowling told the official WBA website. “We hope he will be a player who can have a real effect on the team and one the fans will enjoy watching.”

Matheus, who scored three goals and claimed two assists in 19 Bundesliga appearances last season (Transfermarkt), became Albion’s fourth transfer deadline day signing, along with Charlie Austin, Chris Willock and Grady Diangana, while Filip Krovinovic, Kenneth Zohore, Semi Ajayi, Darnell Furlong and Romaine Sawyers joined earlier in the summer.

West Brom fans won’t just have Dowling’s word on it, as fans of teams for whom Matheus has turned out also seem to rate him highly, as seen on social media:

West Brom, who opened their Championship season with a win at Nottingham Forest last time out, contest their second league game of the season – and first at The Hawthorns – on Saturday, with the visit of Millwall.
