The Charlton Athletic manager has been linked with the West Bromwich Albion vacancy.

Charlton Athletic are facing a race against time to stop their West Bromwich Albion linked boss, Lee Bowyer, leaving for nothing, according to The South London Press.

The newspaper reports that Charlton have a Friday deadline to extend Bowyer’s contract, which expires at the end of the month.

And it adds that negotiations are only properly kicking off today (Tuesday), with the League One play-off winner said to have privately expressed his disappointment at the delay.

It was claimed last week that West Brom chiefs are keen to speak with Bowyer about their managerial vacancy, while Derby are said to have conducted background checks on the 42-year-old in the event of Frank Lampard leaving for Chelsea.

How far up Bowyer is on West Brom’s list – which is also said to include the experienced bosses Slaven Bilic, Chris Hughton and Chris Wilder – remains to be seen, however.

But his potentially imminent availability may encourage an approach – if not from West Brom, perhaps Middlesbrough or Hull City too.

Charlton, West Brom, somewhere else? Where does Bowyer start next season?
