According to a report from Birmingham Live earlier this month, West Brom are considering making a £6 million bid for Brentford star Ryan Woods as Darren Moore continues to prepare his squad for life in the Championship.

Woods has been a fantastic player for the Bees since arriving at Griffin Park, and it should surprise no one that the Baggies are interested in signing him this summer. In fact, it would be no surprise if most of the Championship and some Premier League sides were paying attention to his situation.

Birmingham Live suggested that West Brom are plotting a £6 million bid for the 24-year-old, and should they manage to win the race to sign the midfielder, it would arguably have to be considered one of the best pieces of business they could possibly do during this window.

On paper, West Brom’s midfield should have been a real strength last season. Grzegorz Krychowiak appeared to be one of the signings of the summer last year when he arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, while Jake Livermore has featured regularly in England squads until recently and Gareth Barry on a free transfer appeared to be an excellent deal.

However, none of their central midfielders really emerged from the campaign deserving much credit, and Moore needs to have a serious look at his options in the middle of the park this summer.

Woods is arguably one of the finest playmakers in the second tier. His array of passing has caused all kinds of problems for opposition and he seems to be a player who manages to find time on the ball no matter how surrounded he finds himself.

Should West Brom manage to keep the spine of their team together, they will have a lot of quality in their ranks that should put them right in the promotion mix next season, and managing to land Woods could be the deal that ties it all together and balances the squad perfectly.

But the Baggies should certainly not expect Brentford to make any potential move easy for them.
