West Brom won’t sack Alan Pardew until they are relegated as it will save them £1m.
That is because Pardew’s current £2m-a-year earnings at the Hawthorns will be reduced by 50 percent when they are relegated to the Championship because of a clause in his contract.
However, if the Baggies finish in their current position of 20th then they will receive £2m less in prize money than if they ended one place above.
Admitting defeat with eight matches to play
Essentially this report claims that West Brom’s hierarchy of owner Guochuan Lai and CEO Mark Jenkins have already decided the club are going down even with eight matches left to play in the Premier League.
With an eight-point gap between themselves and safety and only three league wins all season, is this just a realistic and sensible approach?
Or, with claims that the squad have completely lost faith in Pardew, is this simply adding more frustration and annoyance to a fan base who have endured more than their fair share of it this campaign and basically making the final eight games meaningless?
