The Baggies full-back got only his second outing of the season as Slaven Bilic’s side played out a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns in midweek.

A number of West Bromwich Albion supporters have taken to Twitter in response to the Baggies asking the fanbase if they were impressed with Conor Townsend’s display on Tuesday night and there were many calls for him to start this weekend.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a rare runout as West Brom boss Slaven Bilic put him on at half time of the Championship game against Barnsley in place of highly-rated youngster Nathan Ferguson, who was having a difficult game and whose side were two down.
Townsend, who began the campaign as understudy to Kieran Gibbs and injured a nerve in his back a day after the former Arsenal man suffered an ankle injury, delivered a pinpoint cross for Matheus Pereira to head home the equaliser, Barnsley’s Bambo Diaby having halved the deficit earlier on via an own goal.
West Brom shared Townsend’s Instagram post, captioned “good to be back out there”, and plenty of The Hawthorns faithful took the time to respond and praise the £750,000 signing from Scunthorpe (Transfermarkt).
Townsend had made two appearances this season prior to this week’s game – a 19-minute cameo in the Championship opener against Nottingham Forest and the full 90 minutes in the League Cup loss to Millwall (Transfermarkt) – while last season he clocked up 18 senior appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
