The Baggies coach and caretaker manager last term leaves The Hawthorns in pursuit of his own managerial ambitions.

James Shan the head coach

A number of West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to Twitter to wish James Shan all the best following his departure, as announced by the official Baggies website on Friday.

The 40-year-old, who took over as caretaker boss last season when Darren Moore was sacked, amicably ends a 13-year association with The Hawthorns.

Shan began working at West Brom in 2006 when he joined the club’s Academy as an under-7s coach and climbed the ranks during his time at the West Midlands club.

He was promoted to the role of first-team coach following the appointment of Moore in 2018 and took the reins for the final 12 fixtures of last season, reaching the playoffs.

According to the Birmingham Mail, new Albion boss Slaven Bilic met with Shan this week and the pair sat down and held amicable, open talks about what lay ahead.

The report claimed that Bilic was eager to retain the coaching staff already at the club but Shan decided to part company with the club in order to pursue his own managerial ambitions.

Here is how some Baggies reacted on Twitter to the club’s announcement:

A separate report in the Birmingham Mail claims that West Brom are planning on speaking to current Heybridge Swifts boss Julian Dicks about working alongside Bilic – his former teammate at West Ham and also part of the backroom team at the London Stadium.
