Some West Bromwich Albion fans wondered why the Baggies are letting Sam Field leave The Hawthorns for the season while Jake Livermore stays.

A number of West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that academy graduates Sam Field and Jonathan Leko have joined Championship new-boys Charlton Athletic on season-long loans (official Baggies website)

Field, a 21-year-old central midfielder, completed his medical at the Addicks late on Wednesday night and became the London club’s 10th signing of the transfer window, as reported by the official Charlton website.

Number 11 soon followed from the same club as fellow Albion ace Leko, a 20-year-old forward who also completed his medical at Sparrows Lane the previous night, was announced by Charlton on their online channels.

Field, a former England Under-20 international, has played 41 games for the Baggies, including 19 appearances in the Premier League, while Leko represented England from Under-16 to Under-19 level and has 14 Premier League appearances to his name during his time at The Hawthorns.

Here is what some Baggies fans said about the duo temporarily leaving The Hawthorns – one opinion that came up numerous times was the fact that Field has been loaned out but Jake Livermore is staying:

Explaining the reasons for the two players leaving West Brom, Albion’s Sporting and Technical Director Luke Dowling told the official website: “It was important that they went to a manager who believes in them and Lee Bowyer certainly fits that category.

“I know Lee well and we have spoken about Sam and Jonathan’s development at Charlton and we are hopeful the two boys will come back to us with a strong body of first-team games behind them in the Championship and be ready for us… the worst thing for them would have been to keep them around the group here. They are past the level of Under-23s football.”
