The Baggies cult hero was appointed as U23s boss at The Hawthorns but he has already left Albion for another job.

A number of West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Michael Appleton’s confirmed departure from The Hawthorns just a few months after returning to B71.
The 43-year-old came back to The Hawthorns in April as a first-team coach under caretaker boss Jimmy Shan and, in early August, accepted Albion’s offer to succeed Jamie Smith as the Baggies’ Under-23s manager.
However, with Lincoln City having been after a replacement for Danny Cowley, who left the Imps on 9 September to take charge of Huddersfield Town, it was confirmed on Friday that Appleton had been appointed as their new manager on a contract until June 2023.
Appleton’s exit after a short third stint at The Hawthorns was met by fairly mixed reaction from several West Brom fans, who made their feelings known on social media:
Appleton’s association with West Brom began when he moved as a player in 2001 and ending his playing career there, subsequently becoming a coach with the club, and served as their caretaker manager for one match after Roberto Di Matteo was placed on gardening leave.
He then left The Hawthorns to have managerial stints at Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United, before becoming Craig Shakespeare’s assistant at then reigning Premier League champions Leicester City in 2017, a spell which ended in June 2018.
