The Baggies paid tribute to their one-time defender, who played for The Hawthorns club between 2011 and 2018.

West Bromwich Albion have paid tribute to Gareth McAuley after the Baggies cult hero announced his retirement from football after 23 years in the game.
The 39-year-old joined The Hawthorns in 2011 after leaving Ipswich Town and totalled 203 appearances for the Baggies during a seven-year spell at the club, scoring 15 times.
He is highly regarded by the West Brom fans and has been deemed one of the best free signings made at The Hawthorns.
During his time at West Brom he was named Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the year in the 2012-13 season, in which he helped guide the club to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.
As well as responding to McAuley’s retirement announcement, West Brom posted their own tribute on their Twitter channel:
Some Baggies fans took the time to wish the cult hero all the best in his retirement:
McAuley had also played for Linfield, Ballyclare Comrades, Crusaders, Coleraine, Lincoln City and Leicester City prior to joining Ipswich, and after leaving West Brom in 2018 he had a stint at Glasgow Rangers.
He also won 80 international caps for Northern Ireland, scoring nine goals.
