The West Bromwich Albion defender has been out recovering from ankle surgery but is closing in on a return for the Hawthorns side.

#6 Ahmed Hegazi of Egypt looks on during the International Friendly between Portugal and Egypt at the Letzigrund Stadium on March 23, 2018 in Zurich, Switzerland.

West Bromwich Albion have taken to Twitter to show off the return to training of Ahmed Hegazi with a video clip of the Egypt international doing drills on the training ground.

The 28-year-old played 49 games for club and country last season but an ongoing ankle issue that was “managed” throughout 2018-19 required surgery, West Brom head of sports science & medicine Andrew Leaver confirmed in July.

Hegazi was set a provisional return date of September, following the international break, and it all seems to have gone to plan so far, with the Egyptian now back in training and set to work his way back to fitness.

Here is what the Baggies social media channel posted about Hegazi, and also some of the reaction by the Hawthorns faithful:

Hegazi moved to West Brom initially on loan from Egyptian club El Ahly Cairo in the summer of 2017 and then completed a permanent move to The Hawthorns in January 2018.

The highly rated defender has made 85 appearances for Albion and is contracted to the Hawthorns club until the summer of 2022, according to Transfermarkt.
