A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Tyrone Mears’ display during the Baggies’ 3-2 win over Preston North End which has sent Darren Moore’s side to the top of the Championship.

With Leeds drawing on Friday night and Middlesbrough ultimately failing to beat Hull City, West Brom ended up having the chance to go to the summit of the second tier on Saturday.

They managed it, but only after edging a five-goal clash at Deepdale that only ignited after the break. Jay Rodriguez broke the deadlock shortly after half-time, but it would be the home side that would bag the next goal with just under 20 minutes remaining.

West Brom would essentially wrap up the points however, thanks to an own goal and Dwight Gayle, once again, getting on the scoresheet. Alan Browne would make the final moments slightly nervy with a stoppage-time reply, but the visitors saw the contest out.

While it was another win, there are some concerns amongst the fans regarding Mears’ place in the side. The free signing has played a fairly prominent role since arriving at The Hawthorns, and he has done well considering that he is now 35 and had not played in England’s second tier for a number of years.

But a number of fans were not impressed with his latest performance, particularly during the first-half where Mears struggled to get into the contest, and have insisted that Moore should consider a replacement away at Sheffield Wednesday this week.
