Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle enjoyed a successful season at West Brom and is now being touted for a move to Aston Villa.

West Brom fans on Twitter aren’t too pleased to see that their former striker Dwight Gayle is a reported target for rivals Aston Villa.

Birmingham Live have claimed that recently promoted Villa are eying a move for Newcastle hitman Gayle, who recently enjoyed a successful season-long loan spell at the Hawthorns.

Given the fact that the Baggies failed to win promotion, their fans would no doubt prefer Gayle to return to the club as they aim to make a return to the Premier League.

But if teams from England’s top-flight are showing interest in his services then it’ll decrease their chances of signing him, not forgetting that if the rumours regarding Villa are true then he’ll be leaving for a Midland rival.

Gayle’s last game was against Villa when he was sent off at Villa Park during the first leg of Albion’s play-off semi-final showdown against Dean Smith’s side.

The experienced striker scored on that day when he pounced on a Glenn Whelan mistake. All in all, he netted two goals against the Villa this term.

Here is a selection of West Brom fans on Twitter reacting to Gayle being linked with Villa:

Following Villa’s promotion to the Premier League, they will be looking to bulk up their squad for the new season and their return to the big time.

It remains to be seen what type of player Villa target during this summer transfer window, whether they lean more towards inexperienced youngsters, experienced players or try to mixed it up a little.
