Tony Mowbray is reportedly being eyed by former club West Bromwich Albion as they look for their next permanent manager.
West Brom fans have been reacting on Twitter to the recent reports that emerged from the Sunday Mirror (15/04; page 60) which suggested that the Baggies were considering offering Tony Mowbray the chance to return to The Hawthorns this summer.
West Brom’s stunning win over Manchester United on Sunday simply appears to be delaying the inevitable, with the Baggies still well adrift of safety in the Premier League and time running out to keep their hopes alive.
Darren Moore has done his chances of getting the job permanently no harm at all it seems, but the Sunday Mirror reported ahead of the game that the current caretaker is not in the running, while both Derek McInnes and Mowbray are being considered for the post.
Mowbray has done a wonderful job with Blackburn Rovers this term. The Ewood Park outfit appear to be closing in on promotion out of the third tier, and he would be returning to familiar surroundings if he was to take on the West Brom job.
The 54-year-old guided the Baggies to the Championship title a decade ago in the same season that they reached the FA Cup semi-final, and the brand of football on show was often extremely exciting – in stark contrast to what the fans have had to put up with much of this season.
Interestingly, a number of West Brom fans would happily have Mowbray back at the club ahead of next season, with the style he instilled in the side proving particularly popular amongst the supporters. There are those who are less keen to see him return, but the general consensus appears to be that it would be good to see if he could finish what he started during his first tenure.
