West Brom fans have been reacting to the reports coming out of The Telegraph this week which have suggested that Gareth Barry could be in line to stay at The Hawthorns for another year after triggering an extension clause in his contract.

Barry joined the Baggies last summer. And like many of the other players that Tony Pulis brought in, it appeared to be a very shrewd piece of business for the club to land the 37-year-old, even if he is well into the twilight of his career.

However, the midfielder’s spell with the club has been hugely disappointing and his first season looks set to culminate with relegation to the Championship. Barry has not played for the side since February.

But despite not featuring for a while, The Telegraph reports that he has already triggered a clause in his contract that could see his current deal extended beyond the end of this season – though a mutual termination this summer has also been suggested as a potential option for the veteran.

Unsurprisingly, the long-suffering West Brom fans are desperately hoping that he does not end up staying with the Baggies beyond this season as he has been a hugely disappointing signing and it is surely not too far-fetched to assume that he is earning a very decent salary, especially for a player whose club look set to drop into the Championship.

Several of the supporters have expressed their hope that talk of a new deal is a terrible joke, while others are crossing their fingers that a summer exit could still be on the cards.

Here is the best of the reaction…
