West Bromwich Albion are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after edging past Wigan Athletic by a 1-0 scoreline in Saturday’s clash at The Hawthorns.

In a game where both managers fielded somewhat under-strength sides, Bakary Sako’s header just past the half-hour mark proved the difference between the two teams.

Although Wigan goalkeeper Jamie Jones did well to keep out Chris Brunt’s 25-yard free kick, the West Brom captain’s delivery from the resulting corner kick saw his teammate nod home off the bar.

Aside from the positive result and edging one step closer to silverware – after all, the vanquished team won the competition outright just six years ago – there was also another positive in the performance of Rekeem Harper.

In only his fifth outing of the campaign, as noted by Transfermarkt, the 18-year-old midfielder put in a solid performance for his side and arguably staked a claim for Jake Livermore’s spot in the centre of the park.
