Premier League club West Brom have been linked with a move for Barcelona centre-back Vermaelen in the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, the Baggies want to secure the services of the former Arsenal star this summer.

The 31-year-old joined Spanish and European giants Barcelona from Premier League outfit Arsenal in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £15 million.

Much was expected of the Belgium international when he moved to Barca, but the defender has struggled with injuries for the past three or so years.

The former Ajax star spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Italian club AS Roma, for whom he was able to make just four starts in Serie A, according to WhoScored.

Vermaelen was on the books of Arsenal from 2009 until 2014, and was considered as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League during that period.
