Several West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Sam Field’s performance during the Baggies’ goalless draw with Reading on Monday – with the supporters largely divided on what they made of the youngster.

The 20-year-old was handed only his fourth league start of the season as James Shan opted for a youthful central midfield pairing that also included Rekeem Harper.

West Brom booked their spot in the play-offs after securing a point. But it was not a day that will live long in the memory of the Baggies supporters as the visitors failed to score past a Royals side that is still technically able to be relegated – though that would require a ridiculous shift in goal difference.

And Field’s display appears to have caused a split amongst the West Brom fans on social media. According to Whoscored, he completed more challenges than any of his teammates and all but one of the players on the pitch from either side.

But he completed just 20 successful passes during his 65 minutes on the pitch. That was the lowest number of any of the Baggies defenders or midfielders – though he of course, spent less time on the pitch than most of his teammates.

And while some fans have praised the starlet’s performance, others have suggested that he may be getting an easier ride from the supporters because he is an academy graduate, and he is actually not performing as well as some would have you believe.
