A recent report suggested that Nigel Pearson was West Bromwich Albion’s first choice for the vacant manager’s position.
The Baggies confirmed on Monday that they had sacked Pulis just a couple of days after their heavy 4-0 defeat to Chelsea that left them just outside the relegation zone in the Premier League and still awaiting their first win since August.
A number of names have already been discussed as potential successors, but ESPN reports that Pearson is the man the club currently want to replace the Welshman, while Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce are also in contention.
Interestingly, the news has received a mixed reaction amongst the West Bromwich Albion fans on social media, with some fully behind Pearson getting the job, while others seem uninspired about the speculation.
Pearson did an excellent job at Leicester City – guiding the Foxes to promotion and keeping them in the top flight the year before their incredible title win, though he was sacked the summer before they stunned the football world.
However, his time at Derby County was much more disappointing and he is now managing in the second division in Belgium, so it is not a surprise that a number of fans are underwhelmed.
