A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to react to Kyle Edwards’ performance on his full league debut for the Baggies which came in the 1-0 victory against Brentford on Saturday.

James Shan oversaw a second victory from his two games as West Brom caretaker as his side secured a narrow win at Griffin Park – and it was thanks to Edwards that they took the points.

The 21-year-old produced an outstanding run early on in the second-half to bag the game’s only goal. He danced through the Brentford defence in a manner that led some to draw comparisons with something Lionel Messi would do, while Ricky Villa’s famous FA Cup final goal was also mentioned.

It may not have been as significant as that goal, but try telling that to West Brom, who now sit seven points off the top two with eight games remaining. Automatic-promotion may appear just out of reach right now, but they have plenty of momentum heading into the final few weeks of the campaign.

And it would be no surprise to see Edwards feature a lot more prominently in the coming games. His all-round performance gave little indication that he was making his first league start for West Brom.

His confidence grew as the game went on, and his goal may not have been a huge surprise given that he caused a number of problems when he had the ball.
