A number of West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the news that the Baggies have signed young French striker Cheikh Diaby, as confirmed by the West Brom website.

The 19-year-old has signed a contract at The Hawthorns until the end of the season, with an option for a second year, following a week-long training stint during which he impressed West Brom boss Slaven Bilic.

Diaby came through the youth ranks at Le Havre’s academy but left the French club in the summer after his contract expired before reaching an agreement to sign for Valencia during the summer, but that fell through when the Spanish side changed their manager.

The West Brom site confirmed that the teenager will begin life at The Hawthorns in the Under-23s, with sporting & technical director Luke Dowling saying: “We have taken an opportunity to give a promising young striker the chance to develop with us. We will see what the future will bring.”

With Albion doing very well in the Championship and boasting numerous powerful attacking options already, the news that a talented young marksman who was set to join a top Spanish side has now linked up with the Baggies is yet more music to the ears of the club’s fans.
