West Bromwich Albion have announced that they have signed Ali Al-Habsi on a deal until the end of the season.

A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Ali Al-Habsi has completed a free transfer to the Hawthorns.

The transfer window may be closed for Championship sides, but that has not stopped Slaven Bilic bringing the 37-year-old in. He had been a free agent after leaving Al-Hilal. He had also come up against Bilic during his time in Saudi Arabia.

The club have confirmed that he has signed a deal until the end of the season after spending a week training with the Baggies. West Brom become the veteran’s fifth English club after previous spells with Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Brighton and Hove Albion and Reading.

The news certainly appears to have caught plenty of West Brom fans off-guard. Understandably, they would not have been expecting anymore signings through the door – although, Darren Moore did bring in a handful of free agents to bolster the squad during his own spell in charge.

It looks unlikely that he will get the chance to play very often for the Baggies with Sam Johnstone the club’s number one. Johnstone has been a good signing, even if a minority of supporters have criticised his recent form.

Nevertheless, plenty of West Brom supporters on social media have suggested that it is a good piece of business to get Al-Habsi in on a free transfer. He has been a solid performer in England during his time in the top two divisions, and the fans are not unhappy about his arrival.
