West Brom fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports coming from ESPN earlier this week which suggested that Ahmed Hegazi is on Tottenham’s radar as they prepare themselves for Toby Alderweireld’s potential departure.

Hegazi joined the Baggies on loan ahead of this past season. And while West Brom spent much of the campaign languishing down the bottom of the table, the Egypt international established himself as a key player, playing every game and often looking like one of the club’s most impressive performers.

He earned a permanent move to The Hawthorns ahead of the January transfer window, but his stay on the club’s books could be a very brief one, with ESPN reporting that Spurs have now joined West Ham United and Leicester City in the race to bag his signature.

ESPN adds that Spurs may have to prepare for life without Alderweireld this summer and Mauricio Pochettino has included the 27-year-old on his list of potential targets. The Baggies’ relegation perhaps means that there is scope to agree a much cheaper deal than a move would have been had Darren Moore’s men pulled off a stunning escape.

Interestingly, the news of Spurs’ interest has received a mixed reaction amongst the West Brom supporters – and that should perhaps act as a warning to Pochettino ahead of a potential swoop.

While some believe that losing Hegazi would be a major blow, there are a handful of fans who feel that, based on what they have seen this past season, Spurs would be making a mistake pursuing the centre-back as he is barely good enough for them, let alone a side battling for the top four and other honours.
