Sunderland’s League One defender Bryan Oviedo was set to sign for Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion in January.
Bryan Oviedo has taken to the press today to explain the mystery that surrounds his failed move to West Bromwich Albion.
The Costa Rica international was set to follow Stefan Johansen, Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero to The Hawthorns on transfer deadline day, travelling to the Midlands before passing a medical and signing a contract.
The deal was never announced, however. And, speaking to CRHoy, Oviedo claims this was because the required documentation were never delivered on time.
But it seems that West Brom fans won’t be losing too much sleep about missing out on the former Everton benchwarmer.
Left-back is one of the strongest areas of Darren Moore’s squad after all. In former Arsenal and England flyer Kieran Gibbs, West Brom arguably have the best left-back in the Championship while Connor Townsend has looked like a more than capable deputy whenever he has been called upon this season.
28-year-old Oviedo looked like little more than experienced back up – an option West Brom hopefully won’t need if Gibbs and Townsend stay clear of injuries and suspension until the end of the campaign.
