Glasgow Rangers are reportedly considering targeting Gareth McAuley ahead of Steven Gerrard’s first season at Ibrox.

West Brom fans have been reacting on Twitter to the Daily Record’s recent report that suggested that Rangers chief Mark Allen has been in contact with Gareth McAuley about a potential move to Ibrox this summer – and it appears that the majority of the Baggies supporters would not mind seeing the centre-back head to join Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
Gerrard is preparing for his first season at Ibrox, and the Record reports that he could have his eye on as many as four centre-back additions this summer. It is hardly surprising given that two of their most impressive from this past season will not be at Ibrox next term.

McAuley is perhaps a surprise target. The Record reports that the 38-year-old’s representatives have been contacted by Allen about a potential one-year deal and he is currently keen to make it happen as he approaches the end of his contract at The Hawthorns.
The Northern Ireland international has spent the last seven seasons on the Baggies’ books and has made over 200 Premier League appearances for the club, so it would appear that his experience is what is appealing to the Scottish Premiership side.

McAuley played a much more peripheral role this past season, making just nine top flight appearances as West Brom were relegated to the Championship. And that is partially why the majority of the Baggies fans appear to be keen to see McAuley head to Rangers this summer.
Many feel that he has earned the right to get a great opportunity at this stage of his career after several years of brilliant service for the Baggies. There are some who feel that he could still contribute for Darren Moore’s men next term, but most seem to believe that now is the right time to part ways.
Here is some of the reaction from the West Brom fans…
