A number of West Brom fans have expressed their delight for Gareth McAuley after Rangers confirmed on their official website that the defender has joined the Gers on a one-year deal.

After months of speculation, McAuley has become the latest player to join Steven Gerrard’s side. The move has been completed outside of the transfer window, but the 38-year-old was able to make the switch to Ibrox due to the fact that he became a free agent this summer.

The Rangers newbie had spent the previous seven seasons at West Brom. With the Baggies, McAuley made over 220 appearances in all competitions, including more than 200 in the Premier League.

Despite his advancing years, McAuley showed few signs of slowing down during his time at The Hawthorns. But the club ultimately decided to let him go when his contract expired this summer as they were relegated to the Championship.

The West Brom fans have lauded McAuley on social media following the announcement that he has joined Rangers, and suggested that the Light Blues will be pleased that they got the deal done.
