West Bromwich Albion fans have had little to smile about, but they were proud of Claudio Yacob’s display.
If there was any hope that the international break would spark a turnaround in West Brom’s fortunes that would lead to a push for survival, that was largely quashed when Burnley travelled to The Hawthorns on Saturday and strengthened their grip on seventh place in the Premier League.
Alan Pardew’s men have now lost nine in a row as Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood scored either side of the break, meaning that Salomon Rondon’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation for the home side.
It is, understandably, extremely difficult for West Brom fans to find many positives from their fixtures at the moment, but the display of Claudio Yacob gave some Baggies fans something to be relatively happy about.
The 30-year-old was one of West Brom’s better players on another hugely disappointing day, and put some of his teammates to shame by displaying the battling qualities that have often been missing from the midfield this season.
While the performance itself did not get an overwhelming amount of praise on social media, a number of fans took some pride from the way that he battled and showed the kind of desire that the team are going to need if they are going to stand any chance of staying up this season.
Some who are clearly resigned to relegation insisted that he is one of the few players that they would like to see remain at the club beyond this campaign.
