A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to laud the club after they confirmed on their official website that they have completed a deal to sign Sam Johnstone this summer.

The Baggies fans were still awaiting their first incoming of the window ahead of their campaign in the Championship, and they may have been forgiven for getting anxious with one key player out the door in Jonny Evans and the Express and Star reporting that Ben Foster is closing in on a £2.5 million move to Watford.

Foster has been a superb servant for the Baggies, even if his departure seems set to damage the relationship he had with the supporters, and filling the void was always going to be a tough ask for Darren Moore.

However, he appears to have filled it superbly, with the Express and Star reporting that Johnstone has joined from Manchester United for £6.5 million on a four-year deal. The move should pave the way for Foster’s exit to be confirmed it seems.

And in response to the news, a large section of the West Brom fans on social media appear to be delighted with the business that they have done. Johnstone had established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship during his loan spells with Aston Villa, and Moore will be hoping that the consistency he showed – especially during his second stint at Villa Park – helps West Brom bounce back from relegation at the first time of asking.

It certainly seems fair to say that the supporters are extremely pleased with the work that the club have done to get the deal across the line this week.
