Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, showing why he could be West Bromwich Albion’s next manager.

The likes of Alex Neil, David Wagner and Slavisa Jokanovic might be many fans’ favourites to replace Darren Moore at West Bromwich Albion but there’s a reason why speculation surrounding Derek McInnes just isn’t going away.
According to the Express and Star, the former club captain would welcome the opportunity to return to the Midlands, having represented The Hawthorns as a combative central midfielder between 2000 and 2003.
The 47-year-old might not have a proven track record in the Championship like Neil, Wagner or Jokanovic, who have won promotion four times between them, but it would be unfair to suggest that he does not share the same calibre.
McInnes has done a fabulous job in six years at Aberdeen after all and his achievements north of the border should not be diminished. He led the club to their first trophy in 19 years back in 2014 and would have won a lot more if it wasn’t for Celtic.

Aberdeen have finished second in the Scottish Premiership in each of the last four seasons. And he only enhanced his reputation after The Dons’ fabulous 2-0 win away at Rangers on Tuesday night, a result that means they are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
McInnes’ side outplayed Steven Gerrard’s much-fancied Gers and silenced those who have questioned his ability to win the big games. This felt like a big moment in his managerial career.
So West Brom wouldn’t just be getting a man who knows the club – they’d be getting a coach who is improving all the time.
