But Arsenal’s alleged enquiry for West Brom’s Jonny Evans could complicate matters.

West Bromwich Albion could have a free run at Kieran Gibbs, after Watford reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign the Arsenal left-back.

The Daily Mirror reported on Monday that Watford and Arsenal had agreed a £7 million fee for Gibbs’ transfer, but added the Baggies were hoping to hijack the 27-year-old’s move.

And according to Sky Sports (11:56), the Hornets’ deal has since fallen through after they failed to meet the player’s personal demands, which appears to leave West Brom with little competition should they wish to pursue their interest.

Tony Pulis’ side are short of natural left-backs, with winger Chris Brunt beginning the campaign there.

But any move for Gibbs could be complicated by a separate Sky Sports report (12:44), which claims Arsenal have enquired about signing West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for the Northern Irishman, but the Baggies could favour selling him to Arsenal, if it means getting Gibbs, plus cash, in return.
