A virus has spread amongst the West Bromwich Albion squad.
West Bromwich Albion’s preparations for their FA Cup fourth round tie away to Liverpool have been disrupted by a flu bug that has affected six first-team players.
The primary focus for Alan Pardew’s side in the remainder of the season is to avoid relegation from the Premier League, but they are also determined to cause an upset in the cup at Anfield.
However, their hopes of achieving the latter objective have been dealt a significant blow, with some important members of their squad now rendered doubts for this weekend’s eagerly-anticipated fixture.
As reported by Read West Brom, goalkeeper Ben Foster is amongst those affected along with outfield players James McClean, Jay Rodriguez, Ahmed Hegazi, Gareth McAuley and Sam Field.
Dealing with the threat of a dangerous Liverpool attack is a difficult task in any circumstances, but it could be even more problematic for West Brom if they have some key absentees.
West Brom have been vulnerable at the back this season but they can, for now at least, still call upon Jonny Evans, who is in line to start against Liverpool despite continued speculation regarding his future.
