West Brom coach Ben Garner lauds Oliver Burke’s potential

West Bromwich Albion fans have certainly not seen the best out of Oliver Burke following his summer move to the Premier League.

West Brom coach Ben Garner has suggested that Oliver Burke is a hugely talented player, and hinted that his game-time for Scotland’s under-21 side will benefit his chances of breaking into Tony Pulis’ side on a more regular basis, the Express and Star reports.

Burke joined the Baggies in the summer for £15 million – as reported by the Express and Star – but he has so far struggled to break into the side with just two substitute appearances coming in the Premier League.

Injuries and a lack of match fitness appear to have been the main reasons for Burke’s slow start to life at The Hawthorns. But he appears to have turned a corner during the international break, captaining the side and scoring during the Scots’ win over their Latvia counterparts.

And Garner hinted that it will not be long before the West Brom fans finally get to find out exactly why the club spent £15 million on him during the summer.

“We’re looking forward to getting Oliver in with some minutes under his belt and bringing him that much closer to selection,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“He’s a hugely talented player who has shown his potential at Nottingham Forest and has experience of playing in Germany.

“He gives us something different which we will definitely need at stages throughout the season. He can prove he’s a capable Premier League player.”

Though Burke has barely been given a chance, he has still provided a glimpse of his potential, by contributing an assist in the defeat to Brighton back in September.

And if he can start to show the quality on the ball that tempted RB Leipzig to sign him from Nottingham Forest last year, then Pulis will undoubtedly be delighted with the club’s decision to bring him into the side as he could quickly become an integral member of the squad.
