West Brom chiefs have explained to the club’s fans the reasons for allowing a deal to complete the free transfer of Hal Robson-Kanu to run so close to the wire on transfer deadline day, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The Wales international, 27, completed his move to the Hawthorns on August 31st, after the club had been linked with a plethora of stars throughout the course of the transfer window.
Director of football administration Richard Garlick and technical director Nick Hammond addressed fans from the Albion Assembly last week to discuss a series of big issues at the club, and Hammond opened the lid on Robson-Kanu’s move, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:

“He was always going to be a good free transfer. The player had been waiting for the right opportunity and had been offered big contracts abroad and from another Premier League club. As a result, he knew he could afford to wait and we moved when Rickie Lambert made clear he wanted to move on in pursuit of first-team football. At that point, Robson-Kanu came into play.”

Hammond’s words suggest that it was dithering from the player, rather than the club, that caused a delay in the completion of the deal, and that will be music to the ears of Baggies fans who perceived their club to be once again floundering in the transfer market.
Tony Pulis ended up bringing five new faces to the Hawthorns, although Robson-Kanu is yet to feature for the Midlands outfit, with the Baggies boss claiming that the Welsh star is not yet fit for action (Albion Express and Star).
