Tony Pulis has explained to the Express and Star that Hal Robson-Kanu was not fit enough to take his place in the West Bromwich Albion squad for the game with Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Wales international moved to the Hawthorns in the summer having been a free agent after leaving Reading at the end of last season.

And while the manager’s recent concession that the 27-year-old was not one of his main targets during the window in conjunction with his omission for the fixture with the Cherries suggested that he was not going to feature prominently for the Baggies, Pulis has explained that there was a much more innocent reason why he was left out.
“He’s going to have at least a week of training first,” he told the Express and Star. “He’s not done anything in pre-season.

“What we don’t need is players coming who have not had a pre-season and coming straight into it and then getting injured.
“The lad at Palace, [Loic] Remy has gone there and had a major injury from being thrown into an over-excessive training or what it was I don’t know. We certainly won’t do that.”

After a quiet window, West Brom have gone into the new campaign with just a handful of attacking options to choose from, so it seems very difficult to imagine that Robson-Kanu will not get plenty of chances this season.
And having shone during the European Championships with Wales – he scored twice during the tournament, including a goal against Belgium that saw Robson-Kanu pull off a stunning piece of skill to create the chance for himself – he is likely to be high on confidence, and that will surely help him prove himself to his manager.
