West Bromwich Albion’s James McClean was lucky not to be sent off last week.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Baggies boss Tony Pulis discussed James McClean’s recent on-field problems, and highlighted how the Republic of Ireland international needs to control himself more, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old has been no stranger to controversy throughout the course of his career, and he once again became needlessly involved in a potentially troublesome situation, after clashing with Watford’s Roberto Pereyra, but was lucky to only receive a yellow card.

Pulis though, has been a staunch supporter of his player, in the face of adversity, although he did explain how he has spoken to McClean about keeping his emotions in check, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“I think James has got to control himself and he understands that. Sometimes he does live on the edge but that’s the player he is and the person he is. He’s a fantastic lad and he’s competitive – and you want him to be – but he’s got to realise there is a line that you draw and sometimes he goes very close to that line. I’ve spoken to him quite a few times about getting too close to that line.”
West Brom have actually made an excellent start to their 2016/17 Premier League campaign, and incredibly sit in seventh position in the table, after many fans and pundits had criticised Tony Pulis’ summer transfer window recruitment, and on paper, McClean has actually contributed little, scoring just once and chipping in with only one assist.
Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Stamford Bridge tomorrow to take on league leaders Chelsea.
