Southampton were too good for West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup yesterday.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing FA Cup defeat to the Saints yesterday, and explained why the visitors made it so difficult for his players at the Hawthorns, as quoted by the Express & Star.
West Brom currently sit rock-bottom of the Premier League table, seven points adrift of safety, so the fact that they have been dumped out of the cup is most probably a blessing in disguise, in the sense that it will allow them to focus purely on the league now.
Southampton were far too good for the Baggies yesterday, and played in a manner that made their place inside the bottom three hard to believe.
Pardew addressed the media after the game, and explained how Mauricio Pellegrino’s men made things extremely difficult for his side, what with the way in which they moved the football around, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“Southampton are good at manoeuvring the ball and restricting you from pressure, that’s the one thing they are good at. The kept it away from us and made it difficult for us.”
Pardew’s side face a crucial home game against Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday, whilst the Saints have an equally important match on the horizon, with a trip to Burnley next up on the agenda.
Both sides will be desperate for all three points, as they attempt to climb their way out of trouble.
