West Bromwich Albion have said no offence was meant towards Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini for a comment posted via their Twitter feed.
West Bromwich Albion have denied intentionally insulting Maroune Fellaini during their 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
The club’s official Twitter feed posted a comment at half-time, appearing to rejoice that the Belgian was to come on.
The implication was clear, that West Brom’s chances of winning would be boosted by his presence, talking down his ability.
This promptly backfired as Fellaini scored his first goal of the season only two minutes after coming on, and went on to have one of his best ever games in a Manchester United shirt.
After being highlighted as a social media own goal during the match by thousands of fans, SkySports duo Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher also pointed it out on Monday Night Football.
This prompted West Brom’s feed to comment after the game, to insist no insult was meant towards the Belgian.
