West Bromwich Albion are keen on signing Manchester United pair Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, according to reports.

West Brom and Manchester United supporters have been reacting on Twitter to a report coming out of the Daily Mirror which suggested that Tony Pulis was hoping to bring both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to the Hawthorns this summer.

The Mirror reports that the Baggies want to sign two new centre-backs during this window, and Pulis was hoping that Jose Mourinho’s move for Victor Lindelof would leave the path clear for Jones and Smalling to make the switch to the Baggies.

It is not clear how much the pair would cost, but the Mirror added that Pulis was planning to use Jake Livermore’s recent inclusion in the England squad as proof that joining West Brom should not harm their international ambitions.

The news has sparked plenty of reaction on social media amongst fans of both the Baggies and United.

While the West Brom supporters generally appear to be optimistic about the prospect of having both defenders on their radar, they have also expressed a little bit concern given that it has come around the time that Sky Sports suggested that the club would enter talks with Kurt Zouma about a loan switch from Chelsea – given what the interest in three centre-backs hints about Jonny Evans’ future.

Meanwhile, the United fans appear to not be too disappointed about the prospect of losing the two players – with one fan even suggesting that the Red Devils should be the ones to pay the fee to get them off the books.
