Jake Livermore returned to the England set-up just over two months after his move to West Bromwich Albion from Hull City.
West Bromwich Albion’s Jake Livermore in action
Jake Livermore has expressed his surprise at how quickly he has earned a recall to the England squad following his move to West Brom, the Daily Mirror reports.
Livermore moved from Hull City to the Hawthorns for £10 million during the January transfer window (via Daily Mirror), and while he has done well with the Baggies, few would have arguably expected him to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Three Lions’ games with Germany and Lithuania.
And after starting the friendly defeat to Germany in midweek, Livermore has admitted that he is probably just as surprised as anyone about his involvement.
“I thought joining West Brom was the right move for me at the time, but I didn’t honestly think this England call would happen as quick as it did, if at all,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.
“All I can do is go in at West Brom, work doubly hard day-in day-out and hopefully I can grab this opportunity with both hands.”

What has arguably been particularly impressive about Livermore this season is the way that he has maintained his form despite moving to a team where the targets for the season are clearly different.
With a character like his, it seems it can be easier to raise your game in a struggling team and stand out as one of the best performers, but he has arguably been just as influential since joining Tony Pulis’ men.
And having now secured his first taste of international football in five years, he will surely want to do everything he can for the Baggies to ensure that he receives many more call-ups in the future.
