The new Aston Villa striker is intent on developing further at the club.
The striker got his first 74 minutes of Premier League football under his belt against Spurs. It was a tough introduction given the quality that last season’s UEFA Champions League finalists possess.
Villa though acquitted themselves well, taking the lead in the match and only losing after Harry Kane rescued his team with two very late goals.
Wesley is clearly feeling good about things at Villa Park, telling supporters on Instagram: “Together we are stronger! Always learning, developing and fighting back!”
Arriving for a reported £22m (Sky Sports), Wesley has a bit of pressure on his shoulders when it comes to making a contribution at Villa this season.
The striker scored 17 goals for Belgian outfit Club Brugge last term (Transfermarkt) but the step up to English football will be a big one.
Nonetheless, he appears to have the right attitude for it all and he’ll be desperate to open his account against Bournemouth at Villa Park on Saturday.
That’s the kind of match that Dean Smith’s really need to win to stay competitive in the top-flight this term. it should be a far greater indicator of where the Villans currently are in their development than the Spurs match too.
As Wesley alludes to on Instagram, if Smith’s side are to consolidate in the Premier League and beat relegation, unity will be their biggest strength and they must not allow an opening defeat halt their forward momentum.
Supporters enjoyed a magnificent end to last season and an exciting summer. It’s now on Wesley and his teammates to ensure they carry that optimism forward into the challenges ahead.
