Glasgow Rangers could only pick up a point from their latest Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox.
Wes Foderingham has shared to Rangers’s official website what Steven Gerrard told his side in the dressing room following their disappointing goalless draw on Saturday.
The Gers missed the chance to move to within three points of Celtic, and could now fall eight points adrift should the league leaders win on Sunday, after Gerrard’s men could only draw 0-0 with St Johnstone at Ibrox.
It was an incredibly underwhelming and frustrating afternoon for Rangers. The Gers are now without a goal in their last two games and rarely looked like preventing that from being the case against Tommy Wright’s side.
And Foderingham – who was making his first league appearance since October due to Allan McGregor’s suspension – admitted that Gerrard did not hold back in his assessment of the performance, but insisted that he was completely justified in his criticism.
“The manager has been honest in the dressing room and said it is not good enough for Rangers players and we need to be better than that – he is right,” he told the club’s official website.
“Only we can fix it on the pitch so hopefully you will see a better Rangers side in midweek.”
It will be very concerning for Gerrard that Rangers have failed to score for the second game running. With Jermain Defoe and Kyle Lafferty on the books, it did appear that the Gers would be able to cope without the suspended Alfredo Morelos.
But Morelos’s importance has arguably best been highlighted by how much he has been missed in the last two games. And it will be a relief for Gerrard that he is set to be back by the time Rangers face another league clash.
