Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers tied down James Tavernier earlier this month.
Wes Foderingham has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he was delighted to see Rangers team-mate James Tavernier put pen to paper on a new deal earlier this month.
The 26-year-old signed a contract extension in a move which keeps him tied to the Ibrox club until 2021.
Tavernier was one of a host of players who struggled on Rangers’ big return to the Premiership last season.
But the former Wigan right-back has been outstanding this season and signing him up to a new deal is quite a coup for the Gers, given that he attracted interest from the Championship in January.
Since then, Josh Windass has followed suit and committed his future to Rangers, and goalkeeper Foderingham believes it’s a “big thing” that the club keep its best players.
He told The GET: “You want to try and keep your best players at the club. There have been reports of Alfredo Morelos possibly leaving and it’s good to see players want to stay and commit their future.
“Tav signed a new deal which is fantastic as he’s been a top footballer for the club and going forward, tying down as many of your key players as possible is a big thing.”
Early days, but Tavernier and Windass will be huge players for Rangers next season and you get the impression that keeping both is a very big step in the right direction.
There would have surely been renewed interest from down South in the duo this summer, but the fact that they are willing to stay at Ibrox indicates that they believe in Graeme Murty’s vision and that can only be a good thing.
