Wes Foderingham hails Rangers teammate Philippe Senderos; claims he’s already a big presence in the dressing room

The centre-back has made just two appearances for Glasgow Rangers since joining Mark Warburton’s side in the summer.

Wes Foderingham has heaped praise upon Philippe Senderos and suggested that the 31-year-old is already a big presence within the Rangers dressing room, the Evening Times reports.

The former Premier League centre-back moved to Ibrox in the summer to bolster Mark Warburton’s defensive options. But he immediately came in for criticism after he was sent off on his debut following a slightly comical handball against Celtic.

But after his second appearance saw the Gers keep a clean sheet as they beat Partick 2-0, Senderos has received the backing of his goalkeeper, who also outlined what he believes will be the key to getting the best out of the defenders.

“Philippe is a fantastic defender, his debut maybe wasn’t the best but he’s a top class player and a big presence and talker in the dressing room,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“We’ve chopped and changed the back line a bit and it helps when you have a settled defence.

“Building a relationship with defenders is massive from my point of view.

“Obviously it’s been Danny and Clint of late but Clint was ill at the weekend and I thought Philippe did well coming in. He stepped in and helped us to a clean sheet.”

Having made such an unfortunate start to his time with the Light Blues, the Switzerland international certainly has a point to prove in the coming months.

As Foderingham alluded to, Danny Wilson and Clint Hill have arguably been the best pairing that Warburton has had at his disposal this term, so if Senderos had not been given that chance against Partick, he may have been concerned about how many opportunities he would receive.

But after impressing in the win, it appears that the summer signing has proven a point to Warburton that he can be more than a squad player as the team attempt to move themselves back into the title picture.
