Rangers completed the signing of veteran McGregor earlier this summer.
Wes Foderingham has admitted to Rangers’ official website that new signing Allan McGregor offers something different to himself and fellow goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.
Steven Gerrard lured veteran McGregor, 36, back to Ibrox this summer after his contract at English Championship side Hull City had expired. It sees him rejoin the Light Blues six years after leaving the club.
Despite the exit of Liam Kelly to Livingston, the race for the number one shirt at Rangers remains to be found out, with McGregor rivalling both Foderingham and Alnwick for a place in Gerrard’s starting line-up.
But Foderingham admitted that McGregor may have more in his locker than his two teammates ahead of Rangers’ first competitive fixture on July 12, stating that the 38-time Scotland international has more experience.
“It can only add to the competition [the return of McGregor], and he knows what the club is all about. He has been here before and performed really well, so he’ll maybe bring that bit of experience that maybe Jak and I don’t have,” Foderingham said.
Before leaving Rangers, McGregor clocked up a huge 250 appearances for the Gers and boasts an impressive record with the Ibrox club – conceding just 198 goals and totalling 115 clean sheets.
He has signed a two-year deal with Gerrard’s side, but will be made to wait to find out who starts between the sticks for the Gers when it comes to Rangers’ first competitive fixture of 2018-19.
The Gers have been drawn against FK Shkupi from Macedonia in the first qualifying round of the Europa League in just over a fortnight’s time – before travelling to Macedonia for the second leg a week later.
