West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Christian Benteke uploaded a photo onto Instagram yesterday.
The 39-cap Belgium international posted a photo of himself working out in a gym, with a big Irons emoji across the screen.
Now, some West Ham fans think that might have something to do with them, as their club’s nickname is, of course, the Irons.
Benteke was just pumping iron in the gym – so to speak – hence why he maybe decided to add an Irons emoji to his post.
In this day and age, however, where fans are always on the lookout for transfer clues in a player’s social media, it’s no surprise to see the West Ham fans swarm all over his post.
Benteke is soon to be a free agent when his contract with Crystal Palace expires on June 30th.
Some Aston Villa fans recently asked the 30-year-old to come back to the Midlands, but now it seems as if West Ham fans have their hearts set on him.
One supporter below said they’d have the £27 million striker ‘in a heartbeat’ while another said Benteke would thrive with Aaron Cresswell and Vladimír Coufal supplying him.
After a few underwhelming campaigns, the Belgian got back to his best this season with ten Premier League goals in 30 appearances.
If he does leave Crystal Palace as a free agent next month, there won’t be too many better freebies on the market this summer than Benteke.
