Ian Wright told Arsenal midfielder, Mohamed Elneny, on Instagram that he is doing ‘brilliantly’ for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Egypt are in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating Morocco 2-1 on Sunday – they will face off against hosts Cameroon on Thursday for a place in the final.

Granit Xhaka also sent a message to his Arsenal teammate after his side’s progression into the last four by simply posting in the comments section of his IG post ‘well done bro’.

This is what Wright sent to Elneny: “You are going brilliantly, Mo,” said Wright. “We are proud of you.”

Whilst Elneny is having the time of his life at the Africa Cup of Nations, it’s not going well for those back home.

Arsenal are sitting outside of the Champions League places and they just had a January to forget.

Both Xhaka and Thomas Partey got themselves sent off against Liverpool to add more problems to Mikel Arteta’s list.

On top of that, players were allowed to leave on loan in January or sold permanently, yet no one of note arrived to fill that gap, like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving for Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

All in all, Elneny will be hoping he can bring some shine to proceedings by helping Egypt crown themselves as the champions of Africa.
